「Economist」8/22号の表題の紹介です。

ちょっと遅れていますので内容紹介を省略します。

というか、ちょっと夏バテ気味なので詳しく記事を読むのが面倒なだけです（こういう時も

あります）。

サブタイトルと最初の数行から面白そうな記事をとりあえず選択してみました。

soon as they can talk, American children are taught to revere Martin Luther King.

この週は、この人の話題で持ちきりですから。

「racial ills」というのはなかなか辛辣な表現ですね。それだけ社会に深く根ざしているという

ことですかね。刑務所に入っている人口の多さなどとも関わりあるような気がします。

「adorn」－飾る。冠されているということですね。

「revere」－崇拝する（特別な存在として意識する、かな）

India’s economy is in its tightest spot since 1991. Now, as then, the answer is 

to be bold

「funk」－落ち込み

困っちゃいますね。インド経済も。なかなかテイクオフ（なつかしい言葉）しない。

昔カントリーファンドで儲けさせてもらいましたが。

え、アディダスってドイツの会社でしたっけ。おお恥ずかしい！

どういう工夫をしているのか、ちょっと読んでみたくなりますね。

The man with the plan for flash cans for decades the market for expensive 

headphones was mainly limited to hi-fi buffs.

なかなか面白そうだけども、これだけだとちょっとどんなデザイン/製品なのか想像が

つきません。

BEFORE the recession, Richard Clark’s cleaning company in Florida had 200 

employees, about half of them working full time. These days it has about 150,

 with 80% part-time. The downturn explains some of this.

こういうニュースは、ある政策を実行したときにその「side effect」としてよく聞かれます。

確かに、会社としては負担が増えると正社員を切るという選択に走りがちですから。

Economistはこういう文化欄（正確には科学欄）も面白い角度から検証している記事が

見られます。そう言われれば見かけは大事なんだと思うし、それがあるからコンサートは

まだ盛んなわけで。
